I worked with Shannon Bischoff, Melvatha Chee, and Tania Granadillo to organize the 2019 workshop on Community-based Language Research Across the Americas with support from the National Science Foundation.
The purpose of the CBLRAA workshop was to improve communication among community members, researchers, and institutions who engage in community-based language work across the Americas. The multilingual workshop sought to open space for perspectives from Latin American and Indigenous researchers and community members. At the workshop we discussed differences and similarities among the community-based approaches being applied, ethical and practical issues that arise, what we could learn from one another, and how to maintain channels of communication and collaboration in the future.
